cheap vegan eats
I have been craving junk food lately...what's your favorite vegan junk food?|
Yes, I know there are healthier things to eat. I'm just choosing to take a break from oatmeal and vegetables...
God, love so much junk. Chips and gravy, vegan hotdogs, jam doughnuts, dark chocolate with almonds, gingerbread, mince pies, cinder toffee
The "junkiest" thing I put in my body is usually vegan peanut butter with cacao nibs. The Josephs sugar/salt free is absolute HEAVEN!
My local coffee house has awesome vegan cupcakes and chocolate chunk cookies. Alternative baking company cookies are good too. If you want less fancy, cheaper stuff, oreo cookies, plain potato chips, pretzels and nutterbutters are all vegan.
I think it's importatant to relize that vegan =/= health nut. I think veganism would be a lot more attractive to a lot of people if they understood that being vegan doesn't mean committing to eating nothing but bean sprouts and tofu ever again.
Alternative Baking Company makes the BEST cookies ever. I fucking love those things.
I agree there are so many people out there that think vegans eat nothing but spouts and tofu. It seems when non vegans think about vegans they think stick thin and eats carrots. I am a junk food vegan and people are always amazed that I can eat the things I do and that I look healthy. I try to make veganism look easy (cause really it is after awhile) so it isn't so scary to change there eating style.
Dorito's Spicy Sweet Chili chips
Snyder's of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Pretzel Pieces
Ritter Sport Dark Chocolate Marzipan
Alternative Baking Company (the more chocolate, the better)
OMFG THEY DOOOOO. Even if I've eaten my fill, I'll always always buy one at the store when I have the chance.
They're perfection tbqh
Salt and Vinegar Chips (I like Old Dutch but I know those are hard to find in some places)
veggie dogs (I make my own using the recipe here: http://thriftyliving.net/2008/10/20/homemade-veggie-hotdogs/
sloppy joes (black beans + red lentils instead of the meat)
Lindt Madagascar dark chocolate
fuzzy peaches/sour patch kids/swedish berries
Or, alternately if I'm trying to not eat so much junky food my chips alternative is roasted garlic hummus with veggie sticks (chips are my most common craving)
oh also, vanilla oreos (except I'm allergic to soy so instead I get this one brand of digestives that's soy-free and make icing and make my own oreos). They're best when you leave them in the freezer to get nice and firm.
Tia's salsa chips are great. So are those spicy chili or whatever Doritos. Or barbecue Pringles! I'm totally a salty-crunchy-carby snacker, so that's where I'm headed when I'm craving something unhealthy! I've been known to eat a sleeve of saltines when I'm desperate. That being said, I have had a few great vegan cupcakes in my lifetime.
